Democrats take top spots for media value but Republicans are close behind.
A media value report has been released by General Sentiment on politicians.Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi (both Democrats) top the list when compared to other congressional leaders. Leaders of the Senate and House respectively, Reid and Pelosi are two of the most currently analyzed, and highly quoted politicians in the United States. They are both often featured online, in the news, in print, and on TV. Their positions are very frequently talked about in social media.
Harry Reid topped the list, with a total media value of $59,976,482. This is comprised of social media ($11,060,589), news value ($48,430,114), and Twitter $485,778.
Ranked second, Nancy Pelosi is who has a total media value of $44,520,827. This is comprised of $35,248,511 in news media, $9,002,601 in social media and $269,714 in Twitter value.
Mitch McConnell was he highest ranked Republican, who had a total media value of $23,130,856.
Results dropped quickly to $10,841,619 for John Boehner, and $8,741,025 for Jon Kyl, both Republicans. The next Democrat on the list is Dick Durbin with $7,331,862 total media value, followed by another republican, Eric Cantor with $5,265,009.
One of the most interesting aspects of the reports is Eric Cantor’s Twitter media value. He has almost 20,000 followers, the ninth highest in Congress. Republican’s have done a remarkable job of utilizing Twitter, and as a result have 8 of the top 10 most followed Congressional twitter accounts.
Next on the list of highest media value is John Cornyn (Republican) with $5,188,630. He is followed by Democrats James Clyburn ($3,377,403) and Steny Hoyer ($2,445,395).
When you look at the top 10 congressional leaders getting media buzz 5 of the top 6 (after Reid and Pelosi) are Republicans. This indicated that media coverage and online discussions are being dominated by the Republican leaders. Their stance against health care reform and later calls for overturning are creating a large online buzz, and has created a boost in media value.
