Continue Reading »Let’s face it, high performance engines put out a serious amount of heat. Automotive headers and exhaust manifolds are the single largest contributors of extreme engine compartment heat. Fortunately, there are heat wrap products available to contain the heat and prolong expensive engine component life.
There are two primary types of heat wrap products available to automotive enthusiasts for installation on their exhaust manifolds and headers. The least expensive heat wrap is manufactured from glass fiber and has the lowest thermal rating of all wraps. The more widely used heat wrap rolls installed are made from pulverized lava rock and are superior to wraps made with glass fiber.
The installation of glass fiber heat wrap is more complex then those which are created from pulverized lava rock. A glass fiber heat wrap typically needs to be applied while wet to conform to difficult bends, which are common with exhaust manifolds and headers. In addition to this, glass fiber wrap rolls also must have a protective silicone coating applied to the finished wrap. With pulverized lava heat wraps, there is no requirement to wet the wrap for application and no need for a finish silicone coating.
All heat wrap rolls must have a minimal overlap to be effective. In many cases this overlap is required to be one-quarter of an inch. By using the appropriate overlap, maximum thermal protection is obtained without causing any damage to headers or exhaust manifolds. Where the wrap starts and ends should be secured with high temperature stainless steel straps.
When a vehicle is started for the first time after the installation of heat wraps, it is typical to see a mild amount of smoke. During this period of time, the heat wrap is bonding to the headers or exhaust manifolds. This is completely normal and will diminish after an hour or two of running the engine at normal operating temperature.
Providing the heat wrap has been applied over the exhaust manifolds or headers at one-quarter of an inch overlaps, the maximum under-hood temperature drop is commonly about fifty-percent. Pulverized lava heat wrap rolls do offer the best thermal protection benefits and are more likely to achieve the temperature drop sought by most automotive enthusiasts.
Expensive engine components can be given additional protection from heat by using component specific wraps and blankets. Components which may benefit from more thermal protection include turbos, batteries and starters. When combined with exhaust heat wraps, these components will have a longer life because of reduced heat exposure.
In addition to automotive applications, heat wraps also have industrial and commercial uses. Such applications can include shielding pipes or stacks to limit human exposure to intense heat. Whatever the application is, modern day heat wraps have been proven to control heat and do provide significant thermal protection.

They seem finally to have impressed attorneys that it simply is not worth their effort to pursue such claims.
Insurance companies use this information to deny claims and refuse paying for your treatment. The fact of the matter is that low-impact car accident injuries are largely misunderstood. Many times injuries and pain are not apparent at the time of the accident. Some injuries are even missed by emergency room technicians who are wonderful at spotting breaks and cuts, but don’t understand this type of hidden injury that may take weeks, months or even years to show symptoms.
Another large insurance company myth is if you don’t have break to your car than you can’t be injured. This is just not true. The sum of damage to your car doesn’t accurately reflect the amount of injury to the person inside the car. Studies show that injuries can occur at collision speeds of less than 5 miles per hour, when there is little or no damage to the car. This is because as the race car breaks separately, the energy is being absorbed by the flying parts and not by the driver.
The cars of today are built to absorb low speed impacts without significant damage to the bumper. This creates a problem. The problem is that instead of damaging your car, the energy of impact is transmitted to the person in the automobile. This is similar to the energy from one pool ball is transferred to another upon impact. This is simple physics which is completely ignored by profit minded insurance companies. This proves you can actually be injured worse when your car has no damage then when it flies into a million pieces.
Most people don’t realize even though they walk away from a minor car accident “without a scratch” there is a good chance, if left untreated; it is very likely they could develop a serious problem later in life. This will cause a lot of pain and suffering. So, if you get in a little “fender bender”, how do you know if you are injured? What should you do? Simply put, whiplash is when your car gets struck and your body moves faster than your head can react. Your muscles, ligaments, discs, nerves and spinal joint get stretched out and injured. Sometimes some of these neck structures are actually torn. Many times these injuries are not felt for hours or days. Other times your body reacts immediately. Muscles form a protective cast around the injured area by tightening up and going into spasm. This spasm acts as a protective “cast” so you don’t move your neck too much and make the injury worse. Spasm also removes the normal curve in your neck and can lead to permanent arthritic changes if left untreated.
Chiropractic care is extremely important for the care of whiplash injuries because it helps restore the spinal curves and normalize motion in the injured area. If these curves are not restored and proper motion is not brought back to the area, there is a chance of chronic neck and back pain.
In 1999, the Journal of Orthopedic Medicine published the results of a study designed to determine if chiropractic care helped chronic whiplash. 100 patients were divided into three groups and treated on average for four months. Although that sounds like common sense, what most people consider “clean” won’t be clean as far as the rental service is concerned. Smoking in a rented vehicle is one of the biggest mistakes that you could make. This is especially true if you are renting the vehicle for more than one or two days, because the smoke will cling to the upholstery and to the carpet. Clean out from under the seats and anywhere else that dirt and trash can collect. Your battery is the next most important thing that you need to make sure and take care of. If you buy a used vehicle, you should replace the battery first thing, because you don’t know its history. Too many people have purchased used vehicles that work fine the first week and then start having problems afterward, whether it’s due to tires or bad batteries. Keep a pair of jumper cables in your trunk, whether you have a new battery or not. Driving your vehicle often is important to keep the battery charged, so driving a vehicle that is in storage is important to guard against having a dead battery.
Transmission and power steering fluid is also something that you need to watch out for. Transmissions are expensive to have replaced no matter what type of vehicle you have, while power steering fluid is necessary if you have power steering. I feel like a car rim can make or break the look of the car. It is an expensive thing to be obsessed on so I have mastered the art of looking for rims for cheap.

Not Every Rim Not all rim designs or types will go with your car’s design. Make sure that you manually draw the different styles to your vehicle. Continue Reading »Having your tires rotated is an important part of keeping your car maintained. Although the consequences usually are not as severe as other items such as changing your oil or flushing your coolant, it can be a safety and performance issue. Luckily, rotating your tires is a quick and easy process that any Utah auto repair shop can do in about 5 minutes or less.
There are many different ways to rotate your tires, in this article I will teach you how to do the modified X. Every tire takes a turn being at every wheel location on your car with the modified X. The trick will be to remember to do it when your manufacturer recommends you do it.
Here is how to do the modified X pattern on a front wheel drive car. If you have tires that need to be oriented a certain direction, such as rain tires, do not cross them, keep them on the same side of the car just swap the front and the rear tires. For a rear wheel drive vehicle the modified X is reversed compared to the front wheel drive.
Grab your jack, lug nut wrench, and spare tire. Loosen the lug nuts on the front driver’s side wheel. Jack up the vehicle and take the tire off replacing it with the spare. Hand screw the lug nuts at first so you can be sure not to cross thread them, snug them up but you do not need to tighten the lug nuts all the way unless you will be moving your vehicle.
Exchange the tire you just took off with the rear passenger tire. In like manner, loosen the lug nuts, raise the vehicle, take the tire off, replace the tire, finger tighten the lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and finish tightening the lug nuts. Take the rear passenger tire and put it on the front passenger tire.
Take the front passenger tire and change it with the rear driver’s tire. Take the rear driver’s tire and change it with the spare tire (front driver side). Now is also a good time to check your tire pressure.
And finally, use a torque wrench to be sure the lug nuts are tight. An inexpensive torque wrench will do the job. Call your dealer, Utah auto repair shop, or look on the internet for the correct setting for your vehicle. If you can’t find it, 90 foot pounds is a good number.
If you want to speed the process up a floor jack would definitely help. If you want to be as fast as your Utah auto repair company, your next step would be to purchase an air compressor and a good impact wrench. But you may need to watch out as your neighbors may be coming to you instead of their Utah auto repair garage.

Continue Reading »What could be better than spending a sunny day touring the coast of North Wales? Look out at the glorious beaches, rugged welsh mountains and breathe in that fresh sea air. The route from Chester to Holyhead is particularly scenic, so to make the most of this we’ve broken down some gorgeous spots to stop at.
Chester to Talacre The drive from Chester to Talacre is less than 24 miles and should take around 50 minutes to complete. The journey will take you northwards across the river from the Wirral. Once you reach the Welsh town of Talacre, you will be at the same height as the Merseyside town of Hoylake. The town features some impressive sand dunes and boasts the status of Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) (1).
Talacre to Llandudno The second leg of the journey will take you 26 miles from Talacre to Llandudno. This stretch is packed full of attractions to keep you entertained, including the beaches at Rhyl and Prestatyn, ice cream parlours and more arcade machines than you will ever have time to play on. For culture vultures there is a castle at Colwyn Bay (2), whilst at Llandudno itself you can walk along the pier or take in the sights in one of the famous cable cars.
Llandudno – Bangor Driving 24 miles from Llandudno you’ll find the welsh city Bangor. Bangor is one of Britain’s smallest cities, but despite this, it does benefit from its very own pier and mountain, Mt Snowdonia. This is the highest peak in Wales and sits in splendour in the Snowdonia National Park, which well worth a visit for lovers of the outdoors.
Bangor – Holyhead On the final leg of your journey there are two possible routes you can take: along the A55 or along the coast. The beaches on your way to Holyhead will be quieter than others like Rhyl and Prestatyn that you might have visited earlier on your trip. Holyhead doesn’t have to be the last destination on your journey; once you arrive there’s nothing to stop you crossing the Irish Sea to Dublin or Dun Laoghaire.
